You've inspired me. I think I need to try some Artist Dates. Some of the ideas you suggested are things I already do...but never thought of as Artist Dates. :)
the best feeling! so validating to hear you're doing better than you thought, haha--I think the intention you apply to the AD is what makes a mundane experience a little more magical!
Thanks, Emily. I never thought someone could explain the concept better than the teacher, and you've done it.
Now I have a question. You mentioned that this practice helped you appreciate solitude. I'm an introvert, and I write from home; I spend too much time with myself. Would an Artist Date still help?
I'm also a big introvert, and I do think the quality of solitude is different—the playfulness and exploration of an AD feels nourishing to me in a way my autopilot alone time doesn't! (And thank you for the kind words!)
Congrats on week 8! I LOVE a thrift store/driving/walking Artist Date these days—something about the movement and sensory input feels like such a nice break from words and screens!
I loved seeing so many things I regularly do on your list of Artists Dates. I am, apparently, really good at frivolity. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Morning pages, not so much. Even remembering to do them is a struggle.
I love this! I always imagined artist dates as big things—a trip to a museum, attending a concert—which is why I never did them. But your list is a great example of the small ways we can infuse art into our lives. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for so many great ideas!!! I’m 7 weeks in to my first time doing The Artist’s Way, and the artist dates are definitely the part I’ve done the least. I love your ideas and how many of them are so doable when you don’t necessarily have two hours to spend by yourself. Saved to reference later and looking forward to checking some off!
Loved this post and your list!! I went and saw Sinners as my artist date. I definitely need to incorporate them more as well with my hectic work schedule.
Well said. Frivolous. Luxurious. I’ve been working on embracing “fun” over the last 5 months. Your post reminds me I’m likely well overdue for a refresh on TAW and that my soul has been craving some Artist Dates.
I’ve enjoyed reading this and seeing your list, there’s lot inspiration there and at least a few I can and will try.
I wrote a post about doing The Artists Way, specifically Artist Dates and Morning Pages as someone who now has chronic ill health and young children, but still wants to engage with my own creativity urges — I wrote a piece around suggestions for The Artists Way, without leaving the house. Posting here as maybe others are in the same boat as me. We can still be creative, it just has to work for our energy levels! 😊
I’ve just started week 4 of The Artists Way and yeah, I’m always stuck with Artist dates so this really helps. Thanks.
I'm so glad!

Enjoy!! Yes, the key for me has always been making it manageable—the bare minimum AW, lol!
I love this! Saving this and going to try to incorporate more of this thinking into my life. Thank you for sharing!
I'm so glad it resonates! It was SO hard for me to make it a habit, but it's slowly taking root!
